In the Kashmir valley we are having a steep increase in the number of patients with chronic renal failure who are in need of hemodialysis. Most of these people cannot afford it as the cost is reasonably high. Some studies have shown that only 10-30 percent of the patients undergo dialysis due to cost factor. This provided us the idea of setting up dialysis center. ILahiya dialysis center is the first “stand alone” dialysis center to be established in Kashmir. The center was established with the aim to provide quality hemodialysis at the lowest possible price .
We are doing 400- 500 dialysis sessions per month.
Many patients are helped by the trust in form of free medicines, paying for investigations or buying consumables for surgery.
In view of the fact that the patients have to travel a long distance for undergoing the dialysis, we have started free pick and drop facility for some of the patients which has greatly facilitated their attendance for the dialysis schedule. This has been done with collaboration with other NGOs
An initiative to support Covid-19 patients by Voluntary medical trust ( VMT)
Aim: To keep Hospital beds for Sick patients by keeping less sick patients at home.
Background: Home oxygen service will be provided to
Service Provider: Facility is provided by Voluntary Medical Trust based at Ilahiya Dialysis Center at 90 feet road, opposite Medina colony, Soura, Srinagar.
Methodology: The consultants in Covid Clinic in a selected tertiary care hospital decide which patient can be discharged from hospital with supplemental oxygen support. They inform the volunteer of the trust to provide oxygen concentrator. The progress is monitored by a tele-consultation and once deemed fit the concentrator is issued to new patient.
Future prospects: Once the pandemic is over, all the equipment acquired can be used to support patients with respiratory disease requiring supplemental home oxygen. The number of such patients in our valley is huge.
